Open source, AGPL and reversibility
teemIP is not a black box: the IPAM core, extensions and public documentation make the solution auditable, adaptable and recoverable over time.
The teemip-core-ip-mgmt repository presents teemIP as a web-based IP Address Management tool and documents its main modules: IPv4/IPv6 management, network management, DNS domains, CMDB links and REST/JSON services. The official wiki completes this foundation with the data model, administration and integration documentation.
iTop framework heritage
teemIP is built on the iTop framework, the open source ITSM & CMDB platform published by Combodo. This fundamental technical relationship means that iTop's AGPL-3.0 license propagates by capillarity throughout the entire teemIP core. Any use, modification or distribution of the teemIP core is therefore subject to AGPL obligations, guaranteeing code reversibility and transparency for all users.
What teemIP open source covers
- IPv4 and IPv6 space management: blocks, subnets, ranges and addresses.
- Network documentation: VLANs, WAN links, devices, interfaces, VRFs and AS numbers.
- CMDB integration: linking IP addresses to CIs, devices, systems and interfaces.
- Documented DDI extensions: DNS domains, DHCP options, IP request portals and IP discovery depending on installed modules.
- API and integrations: REST/JSON services, CSV import, synchronization and iTop adaptations.
Licences and responsibilities
| Element | What can be checked | Attention point |
|---|---|---|
| Core IP Management | Public repository, PHP code, AGPL-3.0 licence indicated on GitHub. | Check the licence file of the version actually deployed. |
| iTop framework | Technical base of teemIP, AGPL-3.0 license. | The iTop license propagates throughout the entire teemIP core. |
| Extensions | Public modules for DNS, DHCP, discovery, IP requests, cabling or extended network management. | Some extensions may have their own licence or prerequisites. |
| Documentation | Public wiki covering data model, administration, integration and extensions. | Align internal procedures with the installed version. |
| teemIP services | Support, maintenance, scoping, integration and project assistance. | Professional service complements open source without removing reversibility. |
Why it matters for IT teams
An IPAM quickly becomes a source of truth for addressing plans, CMDB relationships, network dependencies and operations. Open source reduces vendor lock-in, facilitates technical audits, enables controlled hosting and leaves the choice between internal autonomy, an integrator or vendor support.
